Dhunche
Frédéric had traveled overland across the width of India and up to Katmandu via train and bus. He had ameobic dysentary the entire trip, and arrived in Katmandu exhausted. Two days later left for Dhunche, 60 miles from Kathmandu. The bus ride took 12 hours, an average of 5 miles per hour. Frédéric went to bed while I changed all of our money to small bills and filled our leaky Nepalese-made kerosene tanks. A Norwegian couple in our hotel had just returned from the trail. They said they were returning to Katmandu because of altitude sickness, leeches and mud on the trail, and lack of views due to the rainy season clouds. |
